Frank is back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown and with Jason Gregor still on holidays, he was joined today by Craig Button from TSN. The two of them kicked things off by talking about the first of three big trades from the weekend: the JT Miller trade. It felt inevitable that Miller would end up back in New York and finally after weeks of rumours, the Canucks pulled the trigger on the deal. They got back a decent return that included a first-round pick, which their front office promptly flipped to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O’Connor. The guys broke down how Miller has looked back in a Rangers jersey and also the Canucks decision to add Pettersson. They also talked about Elias Pettersson’s future in Vancouver and whether or not the Canucks are set on keeping him, or if they could have another big trade up their sleeves. The Canucks weren’t the only team who made a big splash this weekend either. The Dallas Stars acquired Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a package of draft picks. The guys talked about whether or not this was the right move by the Stars considering how much cap they took on and they also touched on the job that Sharks GM Mike Grier is doing as he continues to rebuild his roster.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about the Rangers' playoff chances, Casey Mittelstadt's availability and how many games Ryan Hartman will get.To wrap up the show, Frank got Craig’s take on the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning, who seem to be going in opposite directions.1:35 - Miller returns to the Rangers5:05 - Canucks add another Pettersson16:20 - Stars add Granlund & Ceci29:25 - Flames add Frost & Farabee39:55 - Fill in the Blank51:20 - Red Wings stay hotWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Contenders & Pretenders in the Eastern Conference
Frank’s week of rotating co-hosts continued today as he was joined by Pete Blackburn of What Chaos! In the first part of the show, they went through all the teams that are currently existing in the mushy middle of the Eastern Conference. There are eight teams that all have convinced themselves to some extent that they are capable of making the playoffs and yet none of these teams have gone on any sort of a run that would lead you to believe that they’re front runners in the race for one of the final two wild card spots. Frank and Pete went through every team and gave the case for and against them making the Stanley Cup Playoffs.Frank is high on the New York Rangers while Pete thinks that teams like Montreal and Columbus should do everything they can to help out their young cores and shouldn’t sell off.Frank also mixed in a quick update on the Vancouver Canucks and the JT Miller rumblings. They also talked about how he could fit in with teams like the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers.Tyler then popped on for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the boys about the new name for the Utah Hockey Club, how many pieces the Canucks could move before the deadline, and the rumours swirling around Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke. They wrapped up with some talk about the Minnesota Wild & they discussed where Brandon Saad could end up.2:10 - Boston Bruins8:30 - Ottawa Senators11:25 - Columbus Blue Jackets15:55 - Detroit Red Wings17:50 - Montreal Canadiens21:00 - Pittsburgh Penguins24:30 - Quick Canucks update28:05 - New York Rangers34:00 - New York Islanders36:30 - Buy or Sell45:40 - Brandon Saad’s futureWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? What led the Colorado Avalanche to move on from Mikko Rantanen?
What a weekend in the NHL. We saw one of the biggest in-season trades in the history of the league as the Colorado Avalanche sent superstar forward Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes for a package that includes Martin Necas. Frank Seravalli, the man who broke the trade, sat down with ESPN National Hockey Writer Ryan S. Clark to break down every angle of this deal. What led the Avalanche to the point where they felt like they had to deal one of the best forwards in the NHL? Frank gave some insight into that. Was this the right move? That was the big question that Frank and Ryan struggled with. The guys dissected the package that GM Chris MacFarland got in return and they talked about how Rantanen will fit in with the Hurricanes and whether or not they can keep him long-term.After that, Tyler popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about Rantanen’s future, the chance that we see another blockbuster this season, and Alex Pietrangelo bowing out of the 4Nations Faceoff. To wrap up the show, they talked about why the Chicago Blackhawks felt like they needed to jump in and help out. Frank gave some insight into why GM Kyle Davidson made this move.1:00 - Breaking down the blockbuster18:00 - What’s the next move for the Avalanche?23:40 - Eastern Conference power rankings27:50 - Can the Canes keep Rantanen?33:30 - Fill in the Blank (Rantanen as a free agent, Marner’s Future, Pietrangelo’s replacement)46:35 - Why did the Blackhawks jump in?55:00 - The latest from VancouverWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? What will the true contenders look to accomplish before the deadline?
Frank and Jason are back with a fresh edition of The DFO Rundown as they decided to sink their teeth into the potential shopping lists for the true contenders in both the Eastern and Western Conferences. They started with a handful of teams right off the jump who could be in the mix for some help at the forward position before getting to the best team in the NHL: the Washington Capitals. The Caps have been one of the best stories in league this season, but will they go all-in at the deadline? The guys debated that. From there, they touched on some potential fits for teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars, who’s number one needs are pretty clear cut according to Frank.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the potential fire sale in Pittsburgh, which prompted Frank to make quite the wager with the guys. They also talked about who the Nashville Predators could sell off and the mindset out in Utah as GM Bill Armstrong approaches the deadline. To wrap things up, they talked about a few of the big dogs in the West like the Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild and the always active Vegas Golden Knights.0:45 - Winnipeg Jets / Carolina Hurricanes/ New Jersey Devils5:15 - Washington Capitals11:45 - Florida Panthers18:30 - Toronto Maple Leafs 25:00 - Dallas Stars29:45:- Colorado Avalanche33:00 - Buy or Sell: Penguins Fire Sale38:30 - Buy or Sell: Nashville Predators40:00 - Buy or Sell: Utah is Looking to Buy43:00 - Minnesota Wild46:30 - Edmonton Oilers51:45 - Vegas Golden KnightsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? McDavid & Myers Face Suspensions & The Best Fits for JT Miller
Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as they took a look back at everything that went down over the weekend in the NHL.The big story is the end of the Oilers vs Canucks game on Saturday night as both Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers were ejected for cross-checks to the head of an opponent. Both now have hearings with the NHL DOPS, but should they be suspended the same number of games? The guys debated that and had a bigger picture conversation about the state of officiating in the league. They then got into the John Klingberg signing. Gregor gave some insight into where he could slot into the lineup and they talked about whether or not Klingberg can find his game with the Oilers. They then got into what’s been going down over in the Eastern Conference. The Devils and Bruins are both slipping with the New York Rangers starting to find their game. They talked about the recent hot streak for New York and dug into some of their concerns with what’s happening in New Jersey. That led to some conversation about the Simon Nemec comments. He didn’t ask for a trade, but he wants to play in the NHL and the Devils have a loaded right-side of their blueline. Could something give there? Frank gave his thoughts. They also talked about Kappo Kakko’s hot start to his Kraken career. The guys had a contentious debate a few weeks ago when the trade first went down so they revisited their conversation and their thoughts on the deal.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about best fits for JT Miller, the playoff chances for the Montreal Canadiens, and whether or not Jeff Skinner will finish out the year in Edmonton. They wrapped with some talk about potential injury replacements for the 4 Nations Faceoff with guys like Jason Robertson and Zach Hyman both shooting the lights out.1:10 - McDavid & Myers face hearings14:40 - John Klingberg signs in Edmonton17:55 - Eastern playoff picture20:50 - Concern in New Jersey?32:30 - Kakko & The Kraken35:40 - Fill in the Blank (JT Miller, Habs playoff chances, Skinner in Edmonton)47:00 - 4 Nations Injury ReplacementsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team?
