Oilers Contracts, The Elks Are Rolling, And Waiting For News In The Summer Dead Zone

    2026-07-24 | 1h 14 mins.
It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers' troublesome contracts, the Elks' hot run, another round of Ask the Idiots, line combinations, and more.

We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about five different stories in Oilers history, and how the boys would rank them in terms of the most consequential stories in franchise history.

From Sergei Bobrovsky stealing Game 1 in 2024 to the Griffin Reinhart trade back in 2015 to Zach Hyman getting injured in the middle of a playoff run, this exercise was not necessarily the most fun one to do. Given that there is no Oilers news happening at this point in July, the boys had to get creative with what to talk about for the delicious debate.

Shifting gears, the guys continued on with a conversation about the worst contract rankings in the NHKL that were posted by The Athletic last week. For the Oilers, Dom Luczyszyn had both Trent Frederic and Jake Walman listed as the sixth and seventh worst contracts in the league, and the guys gave their take on whether those deals are as bad as they're made out to be.

Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of betting talk, discussed the Edmonton Elks' hot run in the CFL, worked through another round of Ask the Idiots questions, and finally, Hot and Cold Performers.

While this week's episode followed the same general format, the Friday episode of ONR was all over the map with the lack of Oilers news. Even so, the boys had a lot of fun working through a few hockey stories before having the podcast wind up in the ditch from there.

Matt Savoie's next contract, the Oilers schedule, and the Edmonton Elks

    2026-07-17 | 1h 8 mins.
It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed the Oilers' schedule, Matt Savoie extension talk, another goalie conversation, line combinations, and more.

We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about some of the recent contracts that were signed around the NHL over the last couple of weeks, and wondered how these deal could impact a potential Matt Savoie extension. While there has yet to be any chatter about an extension, it's hard not to think about what Savoie's next deal looks like. Should the Oilers feel some pressure to get something done, given how the rest of the league is adjusting their pricing?

Shifting gears, the guys continued with a look at Colton Dach's new two-year contract, and talked about how it's nice that the Oilers have the cap space to get these things done without having to slide in under the cap by the skin of their teeth. From there, the boys did an Oilers schedule review after the NHL dropped the details yesterday, and broke down what it's going to be like when seven of those games are at 9PM or later. Needless to say, this year's NHL schedule is going to be much different than what we've grown accustomed to.

Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of betting talk, discussed the Edmonton Elks' hot start in the CFL, worked through another round of Ask the Idiots questions, and finally, Hot and Cold Performers. While this week's episode followed the same general format, the Friday episode of ONR was all over the map. Even so, the boys had a lot of fun working through a bunch of Oilers stories after what was a very busy start to free agency.
