We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the Oilers' injury news that came out today, including Ryan Nugent-Hopkins being out for a couple of weeks and Matt Savoie being upwards of eight weeks away. Toss in the fact that Jason Dickinson also isn't ready to go, and you've got a whole lot of bad news piling up before the season has even started. Needless to say, hearing that so many key players are out of the lineup already is... less than ideal.
Shifting gears, the guys turned the podcast to Tuesday's season opener against Vancouver, starting with Tristan Jarry getting the start and the newly formed line combinations after all of these injuries. While injuries can happen at any time in the NHL, it's not exactly great that all of Edmonton's plans they had for their lineup in the offseason are already being shifted around.
Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of betting talk before wrapping up the podcast with a round of Baggedmilk's Trivia and score predictions ahead of the home opener. After waiting around for months to finally get going, the boys were excited about having the season get going even if it's starting with some dire news regarding 30% of the team's top six. From goal totals to team points to how the goaltenders will do, it's almost a lot of fun to take swings at how we think the players will do for the upcoming year. If you've heard the boys do their pre-season predictions before, you'll know that this exercise is something they've all struggled with mightily over the years. But can you blame anyone for being bullish right in the middle of Kool-Aid szn.

While the noise was certainly loud from the fanbase, the reality of the situation is that the team does not care.

Two players that were worthy of an in-depth discussion were Josh Samanski and Isaac Howard, as both young men are looking to get themselves established. Whether it's Trent Frederic having a better year in Edmonton or Jason Dickinson doing what he can to improve the power play, the fellas had plenty of options for players who could have a larger impact on the roster. We also discussed a player like Josh Samanski taking a step forward this season even though many Oilers fans are already bullish on what he might do.
