This is Part Two of our conversation.
Rob and Teresa Heckenlively never set out to own a haunted hotel. During a family vacation to Osceola, Missouri, they called a realtor simply because they wanted to see inside the long-vacant Commercial Hotel. They weren't looking to buy a historic landmark—but by the end of the tour, that's exactly what they wanted to do.
Built in 1867 after the Civil War's Sacking of Osceola destroyed an earlier hotel on the property, the Commercial Hotel has welcomed famous guests including President Harry Truman and brothers Jesse and Frank James. Today, many believe not every guest has ever truly checked out.
As Rob and Teresa began bringing the historic hotel back to life, they discovered they weren't the only ones invested in its future. Before the restoration was even complete, Rob had an encounter so unsettling it kept him away from the hotel for months. Since then, guests have reported heavy footsteps, voices in empty hallways, shadow figures, and other unexplained encounters that continue to fuel the hotel's haunted reputation.

Buying their first home was supposed to be the beginning of a new chapter. The previous owner had passed away, but her neighbors spoke warmly of the years she'd spent caring for the house, especially the beautiful yard she loved so much. It quickly became clear that she had taken enormous pride in making the place a home.
Not long after moving in, little things began happening. Lights were left on, everyday objects disappeared and returned to places that had already been searched, faint perfume drifted through empty rooms, and footsteps occasionally echoed down the hallway. None of it felt frightening. If anything, it felt strangely... familiar.
Then, almost as quietly as it began, the activity faded away. Years later, they still wonder if the former owner was simply checking in on the home she loved—waiting until she knew it had found another family who would love it just as much.

Most people expect a furniture store to be one of the least frightening places imaginable. For one employee, however, the job came with an unexpected warning.
Not long after she was hired, longtime coworkers quietly told her that strange things happened there after hours. She didn't put much stock in the stories at first. Every workplace has its rumors, and this one came with a local legend that seemed almost impossible to believe.
