  • NHL’s WAG culture, why Brad Marchand’s team used to hate him, and Sidney Crosby’s hair advice with ESPN’s Emily Kaplan (plus our Buffalo trip and Bills game recap!)
ESPN’s NHL reporter Emily Kaplan joins Madeline and Charlotte to talk about the biggest and best storylines heading into the 2025-2026 hockey season that kicked off on Tuesday. Did you know that there are a ton of brothers playing in the league? That the players fight to defend each other? That Brad Marchand’s current team hated him before he joined it? That Sidney Crosby took a player to get his hair cut? That the NHL is like a family? That WAGs take their jackets very seriously? If you’re looking to get into hockey, Emily’s fun stories and facts about the guys on the ice are a great place to start. The season kicked off on Tuesday, so there’s no better time to brush up on the narratives. Plus: Madeline and Charlotte recap their trip to Buffalo, which included a trip to Niagara Falls, a fiasco at a restaurant where they tried to order wings, and a visit to SGS listener Christina’s amazing tailgate! Thank you to Christina and thank you to Buffalo! The gals will certainly be back. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  • LeBron James bamboozled us, Bill Belichick at UNC is an absolute trainwreck, WNBA work drama between Napheesa Collier and Cathy Englebert heats up
The gals are back from Buffalo, where they had a phenomenal time and watched Charlotte’s New England Patriots beat Madeline’s Buffalo Bills — full recap of the trip coming on Thursday!Today, there are a few big stories to cover: NBA star LeBron James teased “The Second Decision,” and it ended up being an ad for Hennessy — the internet isn’t fun anymore! The tension between the WNBA commissioner Cathy Englebert and star players, especially Napheesa Collier, reached an all-time high over the weekend and it doesn’t seem to be cooling down anytime soon. The Patriots beat the Bills in a former-Bills player Stefon Diggs revenge game and a statement game for Pats quarterback Drake Maye. UNC head coach Bill Belichick reportedly forbade UNC from posting about Maye, a UNC alum. Parents of UNC players spoke to the press anonymously and it doesn’t seem great down there! The Chiefs’ vibes continue to be very off — Travis Kelce lost on Monday Night Football while Taylor Swift, his fiancee, promoted her album on Jimmy Fallon. • NFL RedZone host Scott Hanson on being the leader of group projects, getting rejected, the spirituality of sports, and how the NFL draft is like a stockholder meeting
Madeline and Charlotte are thrilled to welcome Emmy award-winner Scott Hanson to the show for a very special conversation. Scott is the host of NFL RedZone, Gold Zone during the Olympics, and is in EA Sports’ Madden NFL. If you’re a football fan, he is the voice of your Sundays. But first, the gals discuss the workplace drama in the WNBA. In her exit interview on Tuesday, Lynx star Napheesa Collier called out the league and the commissioner, Cathy Englebert, specifically. She came with receipts and the result was a masterclass in speaking truth to power, especially during the ongoing CBA negotiations. Your employer is not your friend! Then it’s time for the gals’ conversation with Scott. They covered a lot of ground, including: What Scott means to his fans, and how seriously he takes his jobWanting to make sports more accessible How he was rejected from his college program of choice and worked his butt off to get inWhy his habits as a child actually made him perfect for his RedZone jobThe hope of rookie quarterbacksWhy sports are spiritual Why the NFL draft is like a hopeful shareholder’s meeting An incredible story about one of Tony Romo’s groomsmenAnd much more! Thanks again to Scott, and you can find information about RedZone at nfl.com/redzone Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  • Bad Bunny Super Bowl halftime show, LeBron James’ cryptic retirement post?, Cheryl Reeve and WNBA officiating drama, Ryder Cup fan disaster
Madeline and Charlotte have some news: they’re going to Buffalo for the Bills-Patriots game this weekend, so invite them to your tailgate! The gals also need suggestions for what to call the audience of The Sports Gossip Show. Now, the drama: Bad Bunny is performing the Super Bowl halftime show, and the announcement was anticlimactic. LeBron James posted a Reel on Instagram that seems very retirement-coded — Taylor Swift isn’t the only one doing numerology over here! In NFL news, Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart *didn’t* say anything about Chargers’ QB Justin Herbert’s girlfriend Madison Beer. Cowboys-Packers revenge game ended in a tie, which was also anticlimactic. The WNBA tea is hot this week. Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve was suspended and fined for running onto the court and comments she made about the officiating after a foul wasn’t called on the Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas, who collided with Lynx star Napheesa Collier. The Aces head coach Becky Hammon and Fever head coach Stephanie White both got fined for backing Reeves up. All of this brings up a bigger issue: The officiating in the WNBA needs to improve. Plus: Aces-Fever Game 5 tonight! The MLB postseason is here! The Red Sox play the Yankees, the Mets Metsed themselves, and money can’t solve all your problems (unless you’re moving). Fans at the Ryder Cup need to be better after they threw beer at golfer Rory McIlroy’s wife. Madeline’s Georgia Dawgs broke her heart by losing to Alabama at home. We need more drama surrounding Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s daughter dating an LSU star. And, finally, Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson went to Nantucket during football season. Hosted on Acast. • WNBA Playoffs drama with Ben Pickman and The Sports Gossip Show turns one!
The Sports Gossip Show officially turns one today, so Madeline and Charlotte get a little sentimental looking back at a crazy 12 months since they started this show in Charlotte’s apartment. Thank you so much to everyone who’s listened, watched, and subscribed, to The Athletic for bringing SGS on board, and to the husbands of the show — the gals couldn’t have done it without any of you. Then, The Athletic’s own women’s basketball expert Ben Pickman comes on the show to update everybody on the WNBA Playoffs. They talk about how Ben thinks the Aces will go all the way, how the Fever are in it despite all the injuries (obviously including Caitlin Clark), how the Lynx blew a 20-point lead, and why the Mercury’s vibes have been so good. Also — great reality show drama between coaches, why it isn’t surprising that the Liberty let coach Sandy Brondello go, the rise of athlete podcasts, who’s dating who in the league, and much more! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
