Councillor Glen's Stittsville Updates

Good morning! Today I’m in front of the new “Field Notes from Stittsville” mural on the side of Pretty Pots on Stittsville Main Street. Funded through Ottawa’s Paint It Up! program, this is a collaboration between artist Sacha French and the Stittsville Village Association, with help from a number of student volunteers. Thanks to Rona for donating paint supplies as well! We’ll be celebrating the mural launch this morning at 10:00 a.m.

Good morning! This week I’m at Jo-Jo's Community Garden on Stittsville Main Street. It’s a community garden and quite a special place in Stittsville, run entirely by volunteers. Besides the garden plots they also host special events and activities throughout the year.

Good morning! Today I’m at Patrick Hartin House on Maple Grove Road. These two stone buildings are being recommended for heritage designation. The smaller cottage was built around 1840, and the larger home was built in 1886. They are among the last stone buildings from the late 19th century in Stittsville.

Good morning! Today I’m in front of Shingwàkons Public School on Cope Drive. (Shingwàkons means "little pine" in the Kitigan Zibi dialect of the Algonquin language.)

Good morning! Today I’m in front of École élémentaire publique Cassiopée – Stittsville’s newest elementary school. It’s located in Westwood at the corner of Cope and Dagenham. It opens to students this week, along with other french-language schools in Stittsville. A reminder to drivers to slow down, put your phone away, and follow traffic and parking rules, especially near schools. And good luck to students heading back to class!
 
Bonjour! Ce matin, je me trouve devant l’École élémentaire publique Cassiopée, la plus récente école élémentaire de Stittsville. Elle est située dans le quartier Westwood, à l’angle des rues Cope et Dagenham. Elle accueillera ses premiers élèves cette semaine, tout comme d’autres écoles francophones de Stittsville. J’en profite pour rappeler aux automobilistes de ralentir, de ranger leur téléphone et de respecter les règles de circulation et de stationnement, particulièrement aux abords des écoles. Et bonne rentrée à tous les élèves qui retournent en classe!
