Mayor Mike Hurley talks with Councillor Pietro Calendino. With his time on Burnaby City Council coming to a close, we are reflecting on his journey and how ⁠#Burnaby⁠ has changed over that time.
A teacher for 30 years, Pietro also served on the Burnaby School Board and represented Burnaby North as an MLA. In 2002, he was first elected to Burnaby City Council and has since been re-elected five times.
His contributions have been recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the 125th Anniversary of Confederation of Canada Medal, and a Knighthood of the Star from the #Italian Republic, his country of birth before immigrating to Canada in 1959.
