Over 2000 years have passed since the time of Christ and his apostles. Even more time has passed since the time of the Old Testament Prophets. What we are left with is the living word of God. But what happens when people choose to use, manipulate and subvert the word of God for their own purposes? We quickly delve into the realm of modern day false prophets, the bible has warned us to be on the lookout for these false teachers. John 4:1 states "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world". Peter 2:1 adds further insight by saying "False prophets also arose among the people, just as there will befalls teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction." So what constitutes a false prophet today? How can we identify these figures? And what can we do to combat such works? Deuteronomy 3:16 states "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never forsake you". The bible tells us again and again, fear not, do not be afraid. Through its various phrases we are told roughly some 365 times not to be afraid. Even Frank Herbert the author of Dune coined the phrase amongst his characters dialogue, "fear is the mind killer" and this is very true. Fear has inability to make the strongest men buckle at the knees, the smartest person lose all focus and yes it can at times make the most devout Christian waver. So why is it that we seem to see this subtle fear campaign when it comes to preaching of End Times prophecy? Why Does the return of Christ seem to worry some of our flock? In our present age there seems to be no limit to the psychological fear campaigns waged against the average person, but what truly saddens me is those that proclaim to be fellow bringing fear into the theological discourse. Welcome back everyone! Today I have something new and exciting for you all. By now you already know I enjoy a good film breakdown and analysis, but I have yet to tackle a book review. Well today is the day and I couldn't think of anyone more well read than my good friend Heidi Luv from the Unfiltered Rise Podcast. We are calling these little collaborations 'The Unfiltered Point'. Where we get straight into the minutia and nitty gritty of our chosen books. Oh don't worry this isn't some Oprah's book club over here, no fan boys or girls and certainly no gold stickers. This is a straight forward and honest review of books with an emphasis on the good and the bad. To kick things off Heidi and I have unintentionally chosen books with a connected theme. Ancient cultures, alternative history and even an alternative Jesus. We have colourfully named this episode 'Scottish Feathered Serpent Jesus'. Why? Matthew 7:14-16 states "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?" As Christians we endeavour to love our fellow man, and reserve judgement for God. We look for the best in people, and give others the benefit of the doubt. Yet we are always required to be vigilant, on our guard and use discernment when it comes to those proclaiming to know and spread the word. Wolves in sheep's clothing is as perfect a description then as it is in our modern day. How does one protect their own flock (the family) from the wolves hiding in plain sight? What can we do as Christians to be on the lookout for the nefarious personalities looking to feast upon the good nature of our flock? It seems that the communities within the alternative media, freedom movements and content creators have been prey of the eyes of the enemy.
