  • The Murder of Mae Crow
Decades before Melvin Crowe's hate crime against Miguel Marcelli, the 1912 murder of his distant relative Mae Crow incites a riot in which over 2,000 white men storm the Forsyth County jail, brutally lynching Rob Edwards in the streets. These events led to a shameful era in Georgia history referred to as "the sundown", culminating in the 1987 civil rights march through downtown Cumming. On January 24th of that year, Fran and 3,000 other LEO's set aside their fear and strapped on their tactical gear in an effort to gain control of the chaos of over 20,000 marchers and white supremacists clashing in the courthouse square--an event that garnered international attention and turned the tide of diversity in North Georgia. SHOW NOTES & AFFILIATE LINKS Girl, 18, Throat Cut, Found Unconscious in Woods Near Cumming Forsyth 1912: A Timeline of the Forced Exile of Black Residents from Forsyth County New episodes are released Wednesday mornings at 6am EST. • The Malice of Melvin Crowe
Melvin Crowe and his own disgusting flavor of vigilante justice sparked outrage (and potential unrest) in Forsyth County, Georgia when he stalked, shot, and committed a hate crime against Miguel Marcelli and Shirley Webb on July 26, 1980--simply because of their skin color. While Melvin received a pathetic 10 year sentence for this crime, the conversation is much bigger. Fran and Danielle are exploring the larger subject of the history of racial inequality in Forsyth County, as Melvin claims to be related to Mae Crow, the subject of a 1912 rape and murder that sparked decades-long racial tension in the area. Stay tuned for Part 2 next week--The Murder of Mae Crow. • A Watermelony Felony in Mount Airy
We're traveling back in time this week to 1977 in a teeny town in North Georgia--Mount Airy--where three men are smuggling bales of marijuana in watermelon truck. It's just your average bust, until one agent with Stormtrooper-caliber aim misfires and hits a suspect. • Parricide in Pickens County
It's 1981, and Fran is called out to a single-story brick ranch in rural Pickens County, Georgia, where a hard-working man and woman are found dead at the hands of a shocking killer. Bear, the 16 gauge shotgun, is the murder weapon. Larry Romine, aged 29, is the murderer. Descriptions of Larry range from "gospel singer and occasional preacher" to adulterer, acid-tripper, to thief. All these years later, and the Snow ladies are left with a tremendous question. Was Larry executed? Commuted to a life sentence? Or--please don't let it be true--PAROLED?! We're still hunting down the details, but you're not going to want to miss what we've uncovered so far!
