  • Presenting: Victoriocity
Dracula: The Danse Macabre is off this week, but while we work on Episode 3 we wanted to share a show we love with all of you. This week: Chris and Jen Sugden's steampunk detective comedy adventure Victoriocity! Listen to the show on their Apple Podcasts page or on their Spotify feed! Visit their website! Learn more about High Vaultage, the first Victoriocity tie-in novel! Support the show! A transcript for this first episode can be found here. * * * A transcript for the message at the top of today's episode: Gabriel Urbina: Hey everyone. Series creator Gabriel Urbina here. I'm back in the feed because... while the count and Mina may have the week off, that doesn't mean that all of you don't need excellent audio fiction content to listen to while they get ready for Episode 3. So I'm here to tell you about another show that I love, and which - if you're enjoying our take on Dracula so far? - you should definitely check out.  Gabriel Urbina: This week, I want to tell you all about Victoriocity, the steam-punk comedy mystery detective thriller from Chris and Jen Sugden. Starring the amazing duo of Tom Crowley and Layla Katib as sardonic Inspector Archibald Fleet and intrepid reporter Clara Entwhistle, the series follows their adventures in the Even Greater London of 1887. Ruled over by the mechanized Queen Victoria, Even Greater London is a place of amazing inventions, dark villainy, and high adventure.  Gabriel Urbina: Victoriocity is one of those shows where.. you don't just listen to it, it kind of becomes your whole personality for a while after you first encounter it. The performances are pitch perfect, the writing is sparkling, the whole thing just brims with affection for the literature and storytelling tropes of the Victorian era, and it is, I cannot underline this enough, one of the funniest podcasts out there. And there's no time like the present to get obsessed with Victoriocity, since their first tie-in novel, High Vaultage, just came out. So for anyone that's been looking for a... Terry Pratchett-esquie steampunk adventure... well, tell you what, I'm going to do you a favor right now and play the first episode of Victoriocity for you.  Gabriel Urbina: So sit back, relax, enjoy, and I'll see you all back here next week for Episode 3 of Dracula: The Danse Macabre, Experimental Purposes.  * * * VICTORIOCTY Written by Chris Sugden and Jen Sugden Directed by Nathan Peter Grassi FEATURING Tom Crowley as Inspector Fleet Layla Katib as Clara Entwhistle Peter Rae as The Narrator Gemma Arrowsmith as Augusta Bell Richard Soames as Doctor Salik Christian Flint as The Fisherman Chris Sugden as Chief Inspector Keller Jackie Smith-Wood as Ludy Lucretia Molly Beth-Morosa as Miss Waverley George McLean as The Ticket Inspector Additional voices by Ana Armas Romero, Edwina Christie, Daniel D. Soon, they both find themselves drawing the attention of the newly arrived Count Dracula, who wastes no time in setting his evil plans for the new world into motion. • Presenting: The Case of the Greater Gatsby
Dracula: The Danse Macabre is off this week, but while we work on Episode 2 we wanted to share a show we love with all of you. This week: Shipwrecked Comedy's hilarious noir adventure The Case of the Greater Gatsby! Listen to the whole show on their Spotify feed. Visit Shipwrecked Comedy's Youtube Page. Support their work on their Patreon! A transcript for this first episode can be found here. * * * A transcript for the message at the top of today's episode: Gabriel Urbina: Hi everyone. Series creator Gabriel Urbina here. Dracula: The Danse Macabre releases every two weeks, and this is one of the weeks when we... don't have a new episode out for you all. I'm sorry! But - but - but... I do have something to make it up to you. During these off weeks, I want to share with all of you episodes of other fiction podcasts that I love, and which I think you'll love as well. Think of it as... companion pieces to Dracula. If you've liked what you've heard of our show so far, you'll probably like these shows and should check them out. Gabriel Urbina: The first podcast that I want to highlight here is The Case of the Greater Gatsby, by the fine folks over at Shipwrecked Comedy. It is a hilarious take on the conventions of film noir, as we follow the adventures of taciturn private eye Ford Phillips and his fast-talking partner Fig Wineshine. The two of them have to delve into the muck of 1940's Hollywood as they try to solve the murder of acclaimed novelist, F. Scott Fitzgerald.  Gabriel Urbina: Now, just from that description, you can probably already tell why I love this show. It's fast, it's snappy, it's got great dialogue, and it blends the lines between a literary adaptation and historical fiction in all of these really smart, creative ways. But I don't think anything I could say here would properly convey just how charming the characters are, how genuinely gripping the mystery plotline in the show is, and just how many fun, clever things they do with the audio format. So, instead of trying and failing, I want to just play for you the first episode of The Case of the Greater Gatsby. How does that sound? Good? All right, I thought so too. I am going to leave you now in the capable hands of Fig and Ford, as they take you away to 1940's LA.  Gabriel Urbina: Enjoy, and I'll see you back here next week, for Episode 2 of Dracula, A Stranger in a Strange Land.  * * * THE CASE OF THE GREATER GATSBY Written and Created by Sean Persaud and Sinead Persaud Directed by William J. Stribling FEATURING Sean Persaud as Ford Phillips and Jimmy Stewart Sinead Persaud as Fig Wineshine Tim de la Motte as Archibald Maitland Tom DeTrinis as Robert Leonard Matthew Mercer as Mo Beats Mary Kate Wiles as Vivian Nightingale Joey Richter as Danny Saxman Dante Swain as Bixby Crane Sarah Grace Hart as Wilhelmina Vanderjetski And Christopher Higgins as the Emcee Original music by Dylan Glatthorn Additional music by Kevin Luce Audio recording by Ears Up Studio and Noah Hunt Audio Mixing and Sound Design by Lizzie Goldsmith Executive Producers Paul Komoroski & Michael Walsh Produced by Sean Persaud, Sinead Persaud, and Mary Kate Wiles Special thanks to Kickstarter backers Katie Adamczyk, Ally Brown, Zainab Khan, Shao Chih Kuo, Jane Leach, Avalee Long, Lisel Perrine, Halsea Root, The Rude Mechanicals, Heather Tennant, and Justin Waterman.
