Dallas Stars Head Coach Glen Gulutzan: Practicing with Pace, Power Play Drills and Measuring Youth Hockey Success

    2026-09-09 | 1h 14 mins.
    Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/-cWRJds5aRE
We're back! We kick off the 10th season of Glass and Out with episode 348, featuring our Glen Gulutzan interview from TCS Live 2026.
Gulutzan is the Head Coach of the Dallas Stars, and in his second tour of duty with the organization. He's previously been the Head Coach of the Calgary Flames and also spent time as an assistant coach in Vancouver and Edmonton. Overall, he's enjoyed a remarkable career, especially considering that he got his start in coaching as a player assistant with the Fresno Falcons of the now defunct West Coast Hockey League.
The focus of the talk was on practice design, but he also offers some amazing stories and lessons he's collected over his career. We brought a white board onto the stage so he could share some drills and tactics in real time with the audience, so we highly recommend heading on over to The Coaches Site so you watch the episode and add the drills to your coaching library.
Listen as he shares the importance of starting practice with pace, drills to develop a power play framework, and why the number one goal for youth coaches should be development.

Carolina Hurricanes Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour: Thinking like a player, selling your message and avoiding the rearview mirror (Replay)

    2026-06-24 | 45 mins.
In Episode 347, the season finale of the Glass and Out Podcast, we revisit our conversation with the head coach of the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, Rod Brind'Amour.
Back in 2019, Brind'Amour was just in his second season as head coach of Carolina and fresh off leading a young Canes team to its first playoff appearance in nine seasons. Fast forward to today, and he is now a Stanley Cup champion as both a player and a coach.
This was one of our favourite episodes of all time, and we thought it was the perfect way to honour Brind'Amour and his incredible journey.
A special thank you to everyone who tuned in this season. We can't wait to get back at it in September for Season 10!
Listen as he shares why it's important to think like a player as a coach, how to get creative when delivering your message, and why coaches should avoid looking in the rearview mirror.
