The longest serving premier in the history of Ontario, he transitioned it from a new province to the 20th century. He also served in the Canadian Senate, as the federal Minister of Justice and as Lt. Governor of Ontario. Oh, and he is related to Farley Mowat.

While he shared a name with our first Prime Minister, the first premier of Ontario was not related to him. Sandfield Macdonald's time as Ontario's premier was short, but his influence on the formation of Canada was immense.

Piers McDonald served as the premier of the Yukon from 1996 to 2000 and brought many major changes to the territory during his time as premier and during his time in the territorial government. He remains the last NDP premier of the Yukon to date.
