  • Go-Getters: Rose O’Neill
    Rose O’Neill (1874-1944) was an American cartoonist, illustrator, artist, and writer. She rose to fame for her creation of the popular comic strip characters, Kewpies, in 1909. At one point, she was the highest paid female illustrator in America. She was an influential voice in the suffrage movement, and used her art and platform to advocate for women’s right to vote.     Felisa Rincón de Gautier (1897-1994), affectionately known as Doña Fela, was the first female Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico from 1946 to 1969.     Sarah Rector (1902-1967) was known as the richest Black girl in America. She was given allotted land by the United States government in Oklahoma, which happened to be rich in oil deposits.
