2649: Work and the Grace of God

    2026-10-21 | 9 mins.
“Pray as though everything depended on God, work as though everything depended on you.” That line captures so many of the great tensions of life all at once.
Ultimately none of this belongs to us—the money, the house, the business, the body, the reputation, even the people we love. We’re stewards. Temporary custodians. At the end of the game, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.
You still have agency. That is a God-given gift: wake up early, work hard, tell the truth, save money, build something, forgive, learn, become more capable, love people, serve. Take the raw materials you’ve been given and make something out of them. Do the best you can for as long as you can.
Not because you’re guaranteed anything. You’re not. That’s God’s part. You can do everything right and still lose. That’s hard. Work your part. Trust the rest.

2648: Nutritionally Illiterate: Was the Death of Home Ec the Death of Us?

    2026-10-19 | 16 mins.
We talk constantly about financial literacy.
    But what about nutritional literacy?
Think about how strange this is: You can spend the first 18 years of your life being fed by other people, then suddenly become responsible for feeding yourself three times a day for the rest of your life—with almost no training whatsoever.
For generations, home economics classes taught practical skills like cooking, nutrition, meal planning, shopping, budgeting, and household management. Those programs haven't completely disappeared, but somewhere along the way, learning how to feed yourself stopped being a fundamental part of becoming an adult.
Meanwhile, our food environment became infinitely more complicated.
Thousands of choices. Fast food. Delivery apps. Ultra-processed foods. Supplements. Energy drinks. Conflicting dietary advice. Influencers telling you carbs are killing you while somebody else says meat is killing you.
    More information than ever.
But are we actually more capable?
In this episode of LifeBlood, George Grombacher explores the idea of nutritional literacy and the difference between knowing what you should do and actually doing it.
    We talk about:
    • The connection between financial literacy and nutritional literacy
    • The behavior gap between knowing and doing
    • What happened to home economics classes
    • Why the decline of practical food education matters
    • The state of obesity and health in America
    • Calories, protein, carbohydrates, fats, fiber, and micronutrients
    • Why everyone should understand a nutrition label
    • The importance of learning how to shop and prepare food
    • Why cooking can feel intimidating when nobody taught you
    • Five simple meals as a starting point
    • Why independence requires competence
    • What parents should teach their kids before they leave home
You don't need to become a nutritionist.
You don't need the perfect diet.
You need enough knowledge and practical ability to take responsibility for feeding yourself and the people you love.
    Because knowing is good.
    Doing is better.
And being capable of taking care of yourself?
    That's freedom.

2647: Finding Your Own Good, Your Own Way

    2026-10-16 | 13 mins.
Finding Your Own Good, Your Own Way
We've gotten extraordinarily good at manufacturing pleasure — food engineered for the next bite, apps engineered for the next scroll, infinite entertainment on tap. Stimulation is easy. Fulfillment is not.
Comfort isn't meaning. Pleasure isn't purpose. Feeling good isn't necessarily living well. John Stuart Mill put it plainly: better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool who is satisfied.
Your good is yours to define. Not the feed's version. Not someone else's satiated life. Find what makes you better — then build your own way toward it.
    What you'll walk away with:
    • Why engineered pleasure keeps you scrolling
    • The difference between feeling good and living well
    • Why a dissatisfied Socrates beats a satisfied fool
    • A clearer path to your own good, on your own terms
Get Better. Live How You Want.

2649: Escaping Modern Slavery: Opt Out of Dependency

    2026-10-14 | 10 mins.
    Are you actually free?
You can have a good salary, a nice house, two cars, every convenience imaginable—and still be completely dependent on your next paycheck.
And money isn't the only thing being extracted from you. Your attention, energy, appetites, and time are constantly being competed for by media, outrage, gambling, pornography, chemicals, entertainment, shopping, and endless convenience.
The answer isn't to complain about the system.
It's to become less dependent on it.
In this episode of LifeBlood, George Grombacher talks about the difference between consumption and creation, why comfort isn't the same thing as flourishing, how modern dependency keeps us stuck, and why freedom must be built one decision at a time.
    Stop consuming.
    Start producing.
Own more. Owe less. Get stronger. Become more useful. Reclaim your attention. Build something.
    Stop being a swamp.
    Become a river.
    And execute.

2648: Start Walking Away: Some Things Can't Come with You

    2026-10-12 | 11 mins.
Maybe freedom isn't being able to do whatever you want.
Maybe freedom is being able to NOT do what you want.
    To put the phone down.
    To not buy the thing.
    To skip the drink.
To walk away from the approval.
    To leave the opportunity alone.
To say no to something pleasurable because there's something meaningful you're trying to build.
You cannot get somewhere while constantly walking toward everything.
Eventually, you have to choose a direction.
And then you have to start walking away from the things pulling you somewhere else.
In this episode of LifeBlood, we're exploring what it means to walk away—not as deprivation, but as freedom. Why pleasure is wonderful as a visitor and a terrible compass. Why saying no is how you protect the life you're building. And why direction without subtraction is just motion.
You'll learn: • Why "doing whatever you want" isn't the same as being free • How the things you can't walk away from end up owning you • Why pleasure makes a great visitor and a terrible compass • How choosing a direction requires walking away from the rest • What it looks like to say no in service of something meaningful
    Choose a direction.
    Then start walking away.
