Embracing the task of advocacy after the birth of her first child, who has Down syndrome, Annie has led both disability and homeschool organizations for over thirty years to promote understanding and acceptance for individuals with intellectual disabilities. In particular, she loves to connect with other ordinary moms of extraordinary kids.Annie and her high school sweetheart/Air Force veteran husband, Jeff, have two grown children and one still in process. (Isn’t everyone, really?) Despite significant challenges, her favorite global mission destination is Siberia in February, but she’ll go anywhere God opens the door. She delights in anything crafty or creative except sewing, which she merely tolerates. Annie wishes she had more time to read, learn the piano, crochet, and practice Russian. Her furry beast (aka labradoodle) would like her to spend more time teaching him new tricks.Links and ResourcesBible references and further reading: John 1:19-28, John 1:12, How God Advocates for You, Advocating for God’s Cause, Advocate for Others—5 Practical StepsFor additional encouragement, visit Annie’s Perceive God blog.Sign up for Annie’s Quarterly NewsletterIf you found encouragement here, share your Identity and Purpose in Christ with a friend. From Ignorance to Bliss: God’s Heart Revealed Through Down Syndrome by Annie YortyEpisode transcript is available.
