  • Digital Assets Down Under
Today we caught up with Steve Vallas, Managing Director of Blockchain APAC. Steve is a fixture in the blockchain and crypto space in the region, particularly Australia and used to be at the helm of Blockchain Australia. We talk about the convergence between political priorities, the "Australian dream," and what that means for the popularity of crypto down under. Steve will be keeping the conversation going in July at the Digital Assets Conference - a can’t miss event for industry to engage! If you’re keen to dig deeper here’s a great paper on the potential of the web3 economy for Australia’s digital growth co-authored by RMIT and Coinbase Institute. • MiCA Madness
The Interview On 20 April, the European Union Parliament passed the Markets in Crypto Asset (MiCA) regulation. It now goes to the European Council for a final vote (a likely formality) in mid-May. We break down MiCA so you can get the scoop on what the excitement is all about. Joined by Tommaso Astazi, Head of Reg Affairs at Blockchain for Europe this show covers: * An Overview of the EU Political Process* MiCA’s origin story* Contours of MiCA * Future timeline/implementation prognosis for MiCA * “The Brussels Effect” - how the EU might regulate global crypto * … and we finish off with some predictions around what MiCA means for EU innovation. There’s some singing, lots of fun, and with the depth of knowledge our guest brings, we might as well hand out a certification in EU crypto regulation to each listener! The LayoverIf I’m traveling, I’ll drop some great tips or fun places we came across. This is the ‘travel’ section of the world view - less policy, more culture! I talk about a poignant encounter in Berlin, where the serendipity trumps pre-planned excursions. But promises are promises, so I’ve linked some of the sights I recommend, if you find yourself in Denmark or Germany any time soon are: * Shipwreck Museum in Thorsminde, Denmark (it’s award winning!) * Nørgaard Fisk & Røgeri (next to the museum!) in Thorsminde, Denmark * Malakeh Restaurant in Berlin, Germany - opened by a Syrian tv chef turned restaurateur when she came to Germany amid the conflict in Syria. Families came to break fast on the penultimate evening of Ramadan. It was an exquisite meal. * Sunday at the Mauerpark Flea Market. We’ve missed the free entertainment (of people watching) and other musicians who give it a whirl. On what appeared the first real day of Spring in Berlin this was a poppin place and if you’re there on a Sunday … well … you must. * Love Deluxe in Berlin, Germany. It’d been well over a decade since I’d seen the co-owner of Love Deluxe (we went to college together). But that’s the universe, you always find your way back and this time, I got to find my way to my friend’s brand new, and absolutely amazing restaurant in Berlin. Please go, please thank me, and please say hi to Bayo. The Shoutout Links Two helpful reads/listens/watches if you’re keen for more MiCA madness! * Patrick Hansen of Circle’s substack post* Bankless pod/youtube featuring Paddi (again!), Seth Hertlein (Ledger), and Rebecca Rettig (Polygon Labs)And remember - do subscribe to the World View Substack - HERE! Please feel free to rate/review and provide your feedback to the pod. We’re just getting started … :) Get full access to The World View at theworldview.substack.com/subscribe
